Special Scholarship Opportunities
Mitchell Community College students may qualify for a range of scholarships provided by charitable organizations and civic clubs. Many of these scholarships have strict requirements tailored to specific groups. Visit this page regularly to learn about scholarship opportunities and application requirements. Scholarships detailed below are available in 2017.
The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship honors excellence by supporting outstanding community college students with financial need to transfer to and complete their bachelor’s degrees at the nation’s top four-year colleges and universities.
Minimum Eligibility Requirements:
Be a current student at an accredited U.S. community college or two-year institution with sophomore status by December 31, 2017, or a recent graduate (since spring 2013).
Plan to enroll full time in a baccalaureate program at an accredited college or university in fall 2018.
Have a cumulative undergraduate grade point average of 3.5 or better on a scale of 4.0 (or the equivalent).
Demonstrate significant unmet financial need. We will consider applicants with family income up to $95,000. However, we anticipate that a majority of scholarship recipients will be eligible to receive a Pell grant.
Have not previously enrolled at or attended a four-year institution.

SECU “People Helping People Scholarship”
The People Helping People scholarship program provided by the State Employees’ Credit Union is available to any student attending a North Carolina Community College. Each scholarship is awarded for 2 years and is worth $5,000. Recipients will be chosen from those students who have demonstrated leadership, integrity and community involvement. Recipients must be those who plan to attend full-time (12 credit hours) and remain enrolled at Mitchell until completion of their chosen program of study.
