How to Apply for Financial Aid

Apply for financial aid by submitting the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at www.fafsa.ed.gov. 

List Mitchell Community College (Federal Code 002947) on the FAFSA.

You and your parents (if under age 24) should apply for an FSA ID to “sign” the FAFSA electronically.

 

Priority dates for the 2018-19 academic year

2018 Fall Semester – June 29
2019 Spring Semester – November 2
2019 Summer Semester – April 5

 

Important Details in the Application Process

The Department of Education normally takes about two weeks to process your FAFSA and generate an electronic Student Aid Record (SAR). Upon receipt of your SAR, Mitchell’s Financial Aid Office will email you an award notice. You have to complete both the financial aid and admissions application process in order to get an award notice.

If additional items are needed to complete the financial aid process and generate your SAR, you may receive a Document Tracking Letter. Once all documents have been received and the file is complete, the Financial Aid Office will email you an award notice. The process may take up to six weeks, so it is best to start the process as soon as you can.

To apply for a scholarship, complete a scholarship application. If you prefer, pick up an application in Mitchell’s Financial Aid Office. You may return the scholarship application to the Financial Aid Office on the Statesville Campus or the Mooresville Campus. The priority date to apply annually for a scholarship is May 30. 


Mitchell Financial Aid staffers are dedicated to helping students find and secure the financial assistance they need to attend Mitchell Community College. Mitchell awards all federal and state grants based on the results of the Federal Application for Financial Aid (FAFSA) on a first-come, first-served basis.

To guarantee the availability of financial aid during early registration each semester, you must submit all requested documentation to the Financial Aid Office by the priority date.

You must also complete the Mitchell admissions process to be eligible to receive a financial aid package.
