Longest living Mitchell alumna passes

Mitchell College alumna Miss Carmel Elizabeth "Libby" Connolly of Statesville passed away, Tuesday, November 5, 2019, at the age of 104. Miss Connolly was born April 24, 1915 in Catawba County. Connolly had a full career in the insurance profession, eighteen years with C. W. Brown Insurance Agency and two with Fox Insurance. She moved to Columbia, South Carolina for seven years. When she returned to Statesville, she spent 27 years with Webb Insurance and retired from the firm at the age of 77. Always active, she came out of retirement to assist the Iredell County Tax Office with their annual listing.

Miss Connolly was awarded Mitchell Community College’s Distinguished Alumni Award in 2015 at the age of 100. Connolly graduated Mitchell College in 1934, and she was a faithful and supportive alumna. Her six nephews and two nieces–"her children"–have given a scholarship at Mitchell to honor her as their inspiration to getting their college degrees.
