Mitchell announces design for new Health Sciences Building

Mitchell Community College recently announced the exterior design for the College’s new Health Sciences Building. The exterior design will feature a modern façade with a 2 story, glass front atrium. Portions of the former Davis Hospital entrance have been preserved for use in the atrium, upholding the site’s history.

Mitchell’s new Health Sciences Building, funded in part by the 2014 Iredell County Bond Referendum, will be located on the College’s Cherry Street and former Davis Hospital properties. The facility will house innovative lab and classroom space for the College’s health sciences programs. This expansion will increase Mitchell’s property by eight acres, almost doubling the College’s downtown Statesville footprint. Current plans are on track to have the entire Davis Hospital property site cleared by November 2017. Construction is slated to begin summer 2018 with an anticipated opening of the new Health Sciences facility by fall 2019.
