Mitchell announces upcoming facilities projects

Statesville, NC – Mitchell Community College recently announced upcoming facilities restoration and renovation projects for both Statesville and Mooresville campuses.

The Culinary Arts and Executive Training Center (formerly the Continuing Education Cafeteria) project will feature updates to the existing commercial kitchen as well as professional, multifunctional meeting and classroom facilities. The project is currently in the bidding process with expected completion in spring 2017.

The newly constructed Agribusiness Classroom and Lab building will be adjacent to Mitchell’s Continuing Education Center. The facility will provide a practical, hands-on learning environment for Mitchell Agribusiness students along with traditional classroom space. The project is scheduled to start in late winter with completion before the fall 2017 semester.

The Wallace House (located on Statesville Campus) restoration and renovation project is scheduled to begin early spring 2017. Work will concentrate on the first floor and exterior of the building, including painting, repairs, space reconfiguration and accessibility concerns. The project is expected to finish by December 2017.

In Mooresville, renovations and a façade update have been announced for the old Mooresville High School gym building. The facility currently houses Continuing Education classes and Student Services facilities. Updates plan to create a “one-stop” service center for students. Work is expected to begin summer 2017 and be completed by spring 2018.

The Agribusiness, Mooresville and Wallace House projects are funded from the Connect NC bonds passed by the March 2016 statewide referendum. The Culinary Arts and Executive Training Center project is being funded through capital funds from Iredell County.
