Mitchell remembers Dan Pardue with tribute concert

Dan PardueMitchell Community College will host When in Our Music–a tribute concert for Rev. James Daniel (Dan) Pardue on Sat. Mar. 24, 2018 at 7 p.m. in Shearer Hall on the Statesville Campus. The event will feature performances by Mitchell students, alumni, faculty/staff and community members honoring the legacy of Dan Pardue.

Pardue taught extensively in the Statesville area for many years as an applied music instructor, church choir director, and music faculty member at Mitchell where he also served as the voice faculty member and directed the Mitchell Chorus. Along with his wife Jane, Pardue was a champion of the music department at Mitchell. The Pardues both retired from duties at Mitchell in 2013. Dan Pardue passed away on Dec. 25, 2017. “Dan and Jane Pardue were champions of the arts in our community, and in many ways we can credit the success of arts programs at Mitchell to their life’s work,” said James Hogan, Mitchell’s Vice President for Advancement. “We are humbled by this opportunity to honor Dan’s life, and we hope that others in our community will pick up where Dan and Jane’s work ended and that they’ll see the Pardue Friends of the Arts fund as a way to continue our community’s legacy of excellence.”

Concert tickets are $30/person and are available online or by calling (704) 878-4321. Proceeds from the concert will benefit the newly formed Dan and Jane Pardue Friends of the Arts Endowment at Mitchell. The Pardue fund will support Mitchell’s legacy programs of visual and performing arts. In addition to buying tickets to the concert, members of the community may support the cause by donating a sponsorship. For more information about sponsoring or donating to the Dan and Jane Pardue Friends of the Arts endowment, contact Mitchell’s Advancement Office at (704) 878-4321.

Members of the community who performed with the Pardues are invited to join a community choir, which will perform at the concert. Anyone interested can contact Dr. Beverly Brown, Mitchell music department coordinator, at or (704) 978-5479. Rehearsal will be held at 5 p.m. prior to the performance.
